Certificate of Eligibility (COE)

Your COE is the VA's official confirmation that you've earned home-loan benefits. It shows your entitlement, funding-fee status, and prior VA loan usage.

Updated June 20, 2026

Three ways to request your COE

1) Through your lender via the VA's WebLGY system — the fastest path. We can pull most COEs in minutes with your DOB, SSN, and service history.

2) Yourself, on eBenefits at va.gov. Requires an active login and your DD-214.

3) By mail, using VA Form 26-1880. Slowest option; typically 4–6 weeks.

Documents you may need

Veterans: DD-214 (member 4 copy).

Active duty: statement of service signed by commanding officer or personnel office.

Guard/Reserve: NGB-22 or points statement plus DD-214 for any active-duty periods.

Surviving spouses: VA Form 26-1817 plus veteran's DD-214 and marriage/death certificates.

How to read your COE

Entitlement code: 01–11, indicating the era or basis of eligibility.

Funding fee status: whether you're exempt (typically disability rating ≥10%).

Prior loan usage: how much entitlement is currently in use, if any.

'Basic entitlement charged to this loan': the dollar amount the VA has already committed to a prior VA loan.
